ABOUT US
Located at 730 Devine Street near the Coliseum on the main campus of the University
of South Carolina in Columbia,
the Center was founded and is jointly sponsored
by the University of South Carolina Institute for Public Service and Policy Research, and the Arnold School
of Public Health. The Center is administered by the Arnold School
of Public Health under the Office of the Dean. More information on the

Our Mission
The Center exists to coordinate and conduct research designed to accessibility of health care services and to inform public policy in a manner that has a positive impact on the health-related quality of life of South Carolinians.
Our Vision
Working with others both within and outside of the University and the Palmetto Health, we intend to become widely known to the South Carolina health care community as a focal point for coordinating and strengthening research that is relevant to health services delivery and health policy. We also intend to develop and facilitate high-quality, scientific research that is supported by external grant funding of sufficient size and significance to create a regional presence in the Southeastern United States.
Values
We strive to be a science-based, research organization, serving as a link between academia and the community we serve.
We are guided by a desire to translate the methods of academia and science into policies and practices that make a practical difference in people's lives.
We believe that policies and practices should be informed by objective, unbiased, scientific research, but also should be tempered by an ever-present concern for humanistic values.
We believe that open-mindedness, creativity, and diversity of thought should be valued, rewarded, and promoted. To this end we wish to foster a collaborative, interdisciplanary marketplace of ideas that serves as a catalyst for positive change.
We are entrpreneurial in seeking mutually beneficial transactions with health care practitioners, administrators, business leaders, policy makers, and the public at large – but we believe that opportunism should not be permitted to override ethical behavior in our interactions with others.
We wish to be known for our reliability, dependability, and trustworthiness so that others will see us as a good partner. To this end we strive to hold ourselves accountable for delivering high-quality results that exceed expectations and provide added value to the community we serve.
